Giuseppe Puglia
Giuseppe Diego Puglia is a researcher and branch manager at CNR-ISAFOM in Catania, where he is also head of the Plant Molecular Biology laboratory. He is a contract lecturer at the University of Catania in the scientific sector BIO/01. Since 2020 he has been serving as a scientist for CNR at the European Plant Science Organization (EPSO). He holds the position of associate editor of the journal Applications in Plant Sciences (APPS) and is a member of the International Society for Seed Science (ISSS) and the Botanical Society of America (BSA).

It conducts interdisciplinary research from the areas of Plant Biology and Molecular Biology. The main lines of research relate to the analysis of plant-environment and plant-microorganism interactions. In particular, it studies the response of plants to abiotic stresses and germination behaviour in wild species and wild crop relatives. These research fields are investigated by means of the following approaches:
(i) gene expression analysis with molecular genetics approaches
(ii) transcriptomic analyses with ad hoc bioinformatic approaches for non-model species
(iii) metagenomic and metatranscriptomic analyses of rhizosphere communities
